Overview and Background.

Beaufort West e-Community forum, Sisonke.com is a community development through technology programme. The Forum was launch 12 April 2008, and is based at Beaufort West Secondary School. Sisonke.com meaning ‘We All Together’ is about to unite our communities through free access to computers, internet, information and most of other communities in the Western Cape. The Forum consists of members in the communities which fulfill different roles in the forum to sustain the aims and objectives of the Forum and also Cape Access.

"The aim for the start of the Forum is to drive information society projects on behalf of Cape Access at local level and also to manage the e-centre where it’s going to operate from. It’s also an initiative to create an information society amongst our disadvantage, unemployed, able/disable citizens in our Beaufort West community".

We as Sisonke.com also aim to foresee the development in our community through technology. We further also want to contribute to above mentioned citizens, helping them in any capacity we able to in order to contribute to the betterment of our broad Beaufort West community. As a Forum we intend to concentrate not just on able and healthy community members, but will also put our emphasis on disable and people affected with HIV/Aids.

“To achieve such compliment we need the cooperation from other organizations who also initiates development programmes in our town and also a broad infrastructure e.g. more computers”

We had workshops with the community members where we gave them knowledge and understanding around Information Communication Technology. The other workshop that we had was interesting in a way that people asked questions about Cape Access and Sisonke.com. Questions like... When was Sisonke.com established and We did gave them a green light about our plans and future. We also had community meetings. Our main focus is for those who are busy with the training this year to graduate in August 2010.
